TAMPA, Fla. -- Derek Jeter returned to shortstop for the first time since last year's American League Championship Series, Andy Pettitte pitched three-plus innings in his spring debut and the Yankees defeated the Phillies, 6-2, on Wednesday.

Appearing in his third game of the spring after two starts as designated hitter, Jeter played four innings in the field and seemed to have no issues with his surgically repaired left ankle. The captain's one fielding opportunity came in the fourth, when he picked up a grounder off the bat of Ben Revere and flipped the ball to Gil Velazquez for the out. Jeter went 0-for-2 with a walk and expects to be ready for Opening Day.

Pettitte limited Philadelphia to one run on four hits -- including Domonic Brown's third-inning RBI single -- over three-plus innings as he also returned to action for the first time since last year's postseason. The 40-year-old left-hander walked three and struck out three, tossing 36 of his 58 pitches for strikes.

Mariano Rivera made his second appearance of the spring, inducing three ground-ball outs in a scoreless fifth inning.

The Yankees scored five runs (two earned) off Philadelphia starter Cliff Lee, who lasted 2 2/3 innings and surrendered six hits, walking two and striking out two, and threw 44 of 71 pitches for strikes.

Making his Yankees debut after signing on Monday, former Phillies outfielder Ben Francisco drilled home the first two runs with a double to deep center field in the first inning.

Ichiro Suzuki added a run-scoring single off Lee in the second inning, and Melky Mesa connected for an RBI single in the third.

New York's fifth run scored on a throwing error by Phillies catcher Humberto Quintero, and Juan Rivera bolstered his bid for a roster spot with a run-scoring single off Zach Miner in the fourth inning.

Philadelphia left fielder Darin Ruf connected on a solo homer off David Aardsma in the sixth.

Up next: The Yankees travel to Dunedin to play the Blue Jays at 1:05 p.m. ET on Thursday. Jose Ramirez, who has showcased an impressive fastball and changeup this spring, will get the start for the Yankees. Josh Johnson is scheduled to be on the mound for Toronto, facing a lineup that is expected to include Kevin Youkilis and Brett Gardner.
