DENVER -- Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will commemorate the final All-Star Game of shortstop Derek Jeter by contributing to the Yankee captain's charity during the Gillette Home Run Derby.
Tulowitzki is captain of the National League team in the Derby, which is July 14 at Minnesota's Target Field at 6 p.m. MT. The event raises money for MLB's Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program and Boys & Girls Clubs of America, but the captains -- Tulowitzki and the American League's Jose Bautista -- are allowed to pick a charity as well.
"The charity I'm picking is the Turn 2 Foundation, which is the charity that [Jeter] has been running for a long time," Tulowitzki said Sunday. "It's a special charity. That's the kind of tribute that I'm going to do for him."
Jeter's foundation creates and supports signature programs that encourage young people to turn away from drugs and alcohol and "Turn 2" healthy lifestyles. The foundation promotes and rewards academic excellence, leadership development and positive behavior.
Jeter has been Tulowitzki's role model, a player he still admires. But Tulowitzki said the contribution won't come free.
"In return, I'm looking for something from the game from him," Tulowitzki said. "That's me, as a fan. Whatever it may be, and hopefully that goes smoothly."
Tulowitzki already has said the Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton is part of his team, and the remainder of the five-man NL squad will be announced Tuesday. One factor could complicate that situation, however. Tulowitzki has said he'd like to invite teammate Justin Morneau if he is on the NL All-Star squad. However, Morneau is a candidate for the 2014 All-Star Game MLB.com Final Vote Sponsored by Experian. Results of that election will be announced Thursday.
Immediately following the announcement of the American League and National League All-Star rosters on Sunday, fans began voting to select the final player for each league's 34-man roster via the 2014 All-Star Game MLB.com Final Vote Sponsored by Experian. Fans can cast their votes from a list of five players from each league until the winners are announced after the voting concludes on Thursday at 2 p.m. MT.
The final phase of All-Star Game voting will again have fans help choose the Ted Williams All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet. During the Midsummer Classic, fans will vote exclusively online at MLB.com and via Twitter in the 2014 All-Star Game MLB.com MVP Vote Sponsored by Pepsi, and their collective voice will represent 20 percent of the overall vote that determines the recipient of the Arch Ward Trophy.
MLB.TV Premium subscribers, for the first time, will be able to live stream the All-Star Game via MLB.TV through FOX's participating video providers. Access will be available across more than 400 platforms that support MLB.TV, including the award-winning MLB.com At Bat app. MLB.com will provide extensive online coverage of the All-Star Week festivities.
The 85th All-Star Game will be televised nationally by FOX, in Canada by Rogers Sportsnet and RDS, and worldwide by partners in more than 200 countries via MLB International's independent feed. ESPN Radio and ESPN Radio Deportes will provide national radio coverage of the All-Star Game. MLB Network and SiriusXM will also provide comprehensive All-Star Week coverage.
