"I just got in a good situation. Guys were up there battling all night," Drew said. "I got a 3-1 count in a good situation and tried not to do too much. I put a good swing on it, and it worked out for the best."

4/13/15: Stephen Drew talks about his pinch-hit, game-winning grand slam in the 7th inning to propel the Yankees to a 6-5 victory

Baltimore received a solid six innings from Chen and got a two-run homer from red-hot Adam Jones. Youngsters Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop each doubled in a run off Yankees starter Michael Pineda in the second inning, as the O's outhit the Yankees, 11-7, in the loss.

"I was proud of the way our guys handled it offensively," Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said. "A lot of good at-bats and it was a close game. Small margin for error."

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
A Drew Yankee moment: Drew entered the night with three hits in 20 at-bats, making him an unlikely candidate to slug the Yankees' first pinch-hit homer of the season. Summoned to bat in place of Gardner, Drew turned on a 95 mph fastball and slugged it over the fence in right-center. It was the 22nd pinch-hit grand slam in Yankees history, and the first since Jorge Posada's on June 6, 2001, vs. Baltimore. More >

"You don't have to throw a fastball. I chose to throw a fastball," Hunter said of his decision with a 3-1 count. "You locate it and different things happen. Not locate it, it was up over the plate and he put a good swing on it."

Jones crushing at Camden: The Orioles' center fielder has been red-hot at home, homering for the third time in four games to put Baltimore on top in the sixth inning. The two-run blast came off Pineda and also scored Alejandro De Aza and was one of three hits for Jones on the night. More >

Dellin's dealing: The Orioles closed within a run in the seventh against Dellin Betances as shortstop Didi Gregorius' throw on a potential double-play ball pulled Teixeira off the first-base bag, and a subsequent walk loaded the bases for Chris Davis. Betances wriggled free by striking out the slugger in a four-pitch at-bat, snapping off a nasty curve as Davis achieved the dreaded "Golden Sombrero" with his fourth strikeout of the night.

"I threw some good ones to Davis," said Betances, who has been struggling with his control. "Those are the way I need to throw it to all of them. I thought those breaking balls I threw to him were really good."

Chen is quality: The O's starter gave Baltimore a chance to win, going six innings and holding the Yankees to a pair of solo homers. Chen bounced back from a rough season opener and struck out four.

"The last time in Tampa, I was thinking too much, so I messed up my [results]," Chen said through his interpreter. "Today, I didn't try to think too much, and I feel everything was pretty good."

IN REVIEW
The Orioles successfully challenged a call at second base in the second inning, as Schoop was shown to have evaded a tag from Gregorio Petit on what was credited as an RBI double. The Yankees unsuccessfully challenged a call at first base in the fourth inning, as review upheld a call that showed Gardner to be out on a grounder to the mound.

WHAT'S NEXT
Yankees: After striking out eight batters in his season debut, CC Sabathia returns to the mound on Tuesday as the Yankees continue their three-game series in Baltimore at 7:05 p.m. ET. The O's have presented a rough assignment for Sabathia, who is winless in his last six starts at Camden Yards dating back to the beginning of the 2012 season.

Orioles: Right-hander Miguel Gonzalez lost after giving up one run on three hits and five walks with five strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings against the Rays on Wednesday night. He gets another try for his first victory of the season against the Yankees.
