The Yankees are sending CC Sabathia to Dr. James Andrews, who will examine the southpaw's pitching elbow.

According to reports, an MRI revealed a bone spur in the ace's left elbow, an ailment the club believes Sabathia has pitched through since before he signed with the Yankees in December 2008. Sabathia spent time on the disabled list in August with inflammation in the elbow.

Sabathia told the New York Daily News on Saturday that he was concerned.

"We have to wait and see," he said. "It's something that I've not felt before, never had, so it's best to go get it checked out and go from there."

Sabathia posted a 15-6 record and 3.38 ERA in 28 starts this season. The 28 outings matched his lowest total during his 12-year career. The six-time All-Star has tossed at least 200 innings in each of the last six seasons.

After pitching the Yankees to a pair of victories against the Orioles in the American League Division Series, Sabathia was shelled in the club's final tilt of the season, a Game 4 loss to the Tigers in the AL Championship Series on Thursday.

Sabathia is signed through the 2016 campaign with a vesting option of $25 million for 2017 should he meet a series of injury-related criteria.
