Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson set a career high for strikeouts this season, then endured a whiff-heavy postseason.

Now the club is planning to send the 31-year-old to see an eye specialist to find out if his eyesight contributed to his struggles at the plate, a source told the New York Daily News.

Granderson struck out 195 times this season, then went 3-for-30 with 16 strikeouts in the playoffs. That performance prompted some within the organization to believe Granderson was having trouble with his eyes, according to the report.

Every Yankees player undergoes a standard physical, including an eye test, each spring. The source told the Daily News that Granderson did not have any subsequent vision check-ups during the season.

Granderson has dealt with eye trouble before and was diagnosed with 20/30 vision after the Tigers traded him to New York in December 2009. He then tried wearing contact lenses, but it's not clear if he has continued to use them for the past two seasons, according to the report.

Granderson enjoyed a career year in 2011 despite his 169 strikeouts, smacking 41 home runs and delivering a .916 OPS. He hit a career-high 43 homers this season, but with an .811 OPS.

The Yankees are likely to pick up their $15 million option on Granderson for next season.
