Right-hander Joba Chamberlain and the Yankees have agreed on a one-year, non-guaranteed contract for 2013, avoiding salary arbitration.
Chamberlain sat out most of last season due to injury and went 1-0 with a 4.35 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 22 appearances. The team did not announce how much Chamberlain's deal is worth, but he didn't figure to get much of a raise, considering how much of the season he spent on the disabled list.
Chamberlain, 27, made $1.675 million in 2012, and this was his third year of arbitration eligibility.
Now that the Yankees have secured contracts for Chamberlain and fellow righty Phil Hughes, who agreed on Wednesday to a $7.15 million deal, they have only two arbitration-eligible players remaining: right-hander David Robertson and lefty Boone Logan.
The Yankees haven't been to arbitration since 2008, when they won their case against right-hander Chien-Ming Wang.
