NEW YORK -- Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner has been announced among the honorees for the 34th annual Thurman Munson Awards dinner, which is scheduled to be held on Feb. 4 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York.
Gardner, who makes regular visits to ailing children at the New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital during the season, will be recognized for his athletic success and philanthropic work at the event.
Also in line to receive Munson Awards are former big league pitchers and current television analysts David Cone and Jim Kaat, Mets right-hander Dillon Gee, New York Knicks Hall of Fame forward Bernard King and New York Giants safety Antrel Rolle.
The awards and dinner pay homage the late Yankees captain, whose career was tragically cut short by a 1979 plane crash. The event benefits the AHRC NYC Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that supports programs enabling children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Diana Munson, Thurman's widow, will attend her 34th straight benefit. She has been involved since its inception, raising more than $12 million.
