NEW YORK -- Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira was examined by a specialist on Thursday in New York, who confirmed that the slugger is currently experiencing inflammation in his right wrist, the team said.
Teixeira, who was seen by Dr. Keith Raskin, is considered day to day. Teixeira was scratched from Monday's lineup against the Cardinals with stiffness in the wrist, which was surgically repaired last season.
Teixeira has not played since Sunday against the White Sox in Chicago, pressing Kelly Johnson, Brendan Ryan and Brian McCann into duty manning first base during the Cardinals series. Teixeira is batting .248 with nine home runs and 25 RBIs in 35 games this season.
Additionally, the Yankees said that outfielder Carlos Beltran took 25 swings from each side of the plate Thursday in the home batting cage at Yankee Stadium (50 total swings), receiving soft toss from Yankees hitting coach Kevin Long.
Beltran did not experience any discomfort and is scheduled to repeat this workout on Friday, according to the team. Beltran is currently on the 15-day disabled list with a bone spur in his right elbow and is hoping to avoid surgery that could cost him eight to 12 weeks of the season.
