BALTIMORE -- The Yankees have an extra night to come up with ways to spark their struggling offense. Tuesday's game against the Orioles at Camden Yards was postponed due to inclement weather.
The postponement was announced at approximately 3 p.m. ET. The game will be made up on Friday, Sept. 12, as a day-night doubleheader at 1:05 p.m. and 7:05 p.m.
The two teams will play their regularly scheduled game on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m., with right-hander Michael Pineda scheduled to pitch for the Yankees, marking his first big league start since April 23. Right-hander Chris Tillman starts for Baltimore.
Pineda was 2-2 with a 1.83 ERA in four April starts before sustaining a strained muscle behind his pitching shoulder, an injury that occurred while he was serving a 10-game suspension for having pine tar -- an illegal substance -- on his neck in a game against the Red Sox.
"I know I made a mistake, so I learned from that," Pineda said. "Everything is in the past right now. I want to continue my career and that's it. I'm focused on my game and I'm focused on pitching.
"I said sorry to my team and sorry to everybody, so now everything is in the past. I want to continue my career and I want to help my team right now."
The Yankees also announced their pitching rotation for the series against the Rays at Tropicana Field, which begins on Friday. Brandon McCarthy, Shane Greene and Chris Capuano are now scheduled to start in that series; Greene was scheduled to start Tuesday before the rainout.
New York dropped Monday's series opener against the division-leading Orioles by an 11-3 score, managing just one hit -- Derek Jeter's fifth-inning double -- after the second inning.
The Yanks appeared poised to go on a run when they took three of four games from the Tigers last week at Yankee Stadium, but dropped their last two games to the Indians and have scored in just three of their last 29 innings.
"Listen, when you play baseball, there's going to be stretches when you struggle and stretches when you play well," Jeter said. "We won three of four against Detroit and everyone said we were great, and now we scuffle a little bit the last few games and now it's questions about our offense.
"Yeah, we understand, we have to score runs, we have to pitch, we have to play defense, we have to play better. We need to win games but we also have to remain optimistic. That's what you have to do."
