Former Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who has said in the past that he'd someday like to own a baseball team, reiterated that sentiment this weekend when he told Bloomberg TV that "baseball is what I know" and also that it's unlikely he'd foray into ownership outside of baseball.
Jeter spoke to Bloomberg TV at the official launch of The Players' Tribune, an online publication that serves as a vehicle for first-person writing from athletes across all sports.
Asked whether he would consider owning a team outside of baseball, Jeter said: "Baseball is what I know … I don't like to be unprepared and I don't know enough about the other sports to own a team. You know, I'd like to call the shots, so therefore I'd like to know what I'm doing. So, no, I'll stick with what I know."
The Yankees icon retired at the end of last season, accumulating 20 years of Major League service in the Bronx.

As his former team prepares for Spring Training this week, Jeter was asked whether he's missing the game.
"That's long enough -- 23 [years], actually, professionally," Jeter said. "So this has been a fun offseason when I don't have to get up early in the morning and get ready. So physically, I'm retired."
Jeter said it wasn't "realistic" that he would be an owner in the next 12 months, saying he doesn't "know enough about it" to jump right in.
"I have to make sure that I'm fully prepared before I would do something like that," Jeter said.
