CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Yankees Minor League catcher Luis Torrens has been diagnosed with a torn labrum in his right shoulder and will miss the 2015 season, the team announced on Tuesday.
Torrens, 18, is rated as the Yankees' No. 10 prospect by MLB.com. The Yankees said that Torrens' procedure will be performed by Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York on Wednesday.
Signed out of Venezuela in 2012 for $1.3 million, Torrens played for the Gulf Coast Yankees, Class A Short Season Staten Island and Class A Charleston last season, posting a split line of .256/.331/.383 with three home runs and 22 RBIs in 62 games.
