HOW TO ENTER: During the Promotion Period, you may enter the Promotion by clicking on the banners, buttons and/or links within MLB.com Gameday (a free application) and following the instructions provided to register for the Promotion. If you are not already a member of MLB.com, you must become one before you can register to participate in the Contest (membership is free). There is only one (1) way to participate in the Promotion: online. No other method of entry or participation will be accepted. Additional entries beyond the specified limit will be void. Entries generated by script, macro or other automated means will be void. HOW TO PARTICIPATE:  Upon successful registration, follow the instructions provided to receive one (1) virtual bingo card (the "Bingo Card") for each game of the 2012 MLB Postseason played during the Promotion Period (each, a "Postseason Game"). In addition, during the Promotion Period, participants may utilize sharing functionality available via the Promotion upon completion of a successful Contest (the "Sharing Functionality") to receive two (2) additional Bingo Cards. For each eligible individual any entrant notifies or makes aware of the Promotion who clicks on a valid link made available via the Sharing Functionality identifiable as having come from the entrant, such entrant shall receive two (2) additional Bingo Cards (for a total of three (3) Bingo Cards). No additional Bingo Cards will be received other than through verified Sharing Functionality. There is a limit of three (3) Bingo Cards per person and per e-mail address per Postseason Game. Each Bingo Card shall include a 5x5 grid that includes twenty-five (25) tiles (each, a "Tile"). Each Tile will include one (1) randomly selected game outcome for the active Postseason Game. For example, a participant could have a "Josh Hamilton Double" Tile on their Bingo Card which would be automatically marked in the event Josh Hamilton hits a double during a Postseason Game. Any eligible participant who receives a Bingo Card that becomes marked with five (5) Tiles in a vertical, horizontal or diagonal row (each, a "Potential Winning Bingo Card") may be a potential Prize winner, subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with the terms of these Official Rules. For purposes of this Promotion, MLB game outcomes will not be updated to reflect any official MLB statistics changes or corrections that may occur after the completion of any Postseason Game. PRIZE CLAIMS: In the event you receive a message within MLB.com Gameday notifying you that you have a Potential Winning Bingo Card, you must claim your Potential Winning Bingo Card by following the onscreen instructions provided by no later than ten (10) minutes following the end of the applicable Postseason Game to be eligible for the Drawing (defined below). Failure to claim your Potential Winning Bingo Card within ten (10) minutes following the end of the applicable Postseason Game will render the Potential Winning Bingo Card void and result in Prize forfeiture.

Gardner: A-Rod in Charleston a big deal

MINNEAPOLIS -- Brett Gardner has deep ties to the Charleston, S.C., area, so he understands just how big of a deal it will be to have Alex Rodriguez wearing a Riverdogs uniform this week.

Rodriguez is slated to join Class-A Charleston on Tuesday, playing at least three innings at third base. He and shortstop Eduardo Nunez are also scheduled to play for the Riverdogs on Wednesday.

"I know it's supposed to be standing-room-only there tonight," Gardner said. "I was joking with Mark Littlefield, our trainer -- it's probably the second-biggest crowd they've ever had, except for when I was there last year [on Minor League rehab]. I think it'll mean a lot. I think they'll enjoy seeing him play, and I think he'll enjoy his time there as well."

Manager Joe Girardi plans to assign one of the team's starting pitchers to watch A-Rod's at-bats, which are being broadcast from Charleston, and joked that Charleston's players will probably enjoy the big league postgame spread Rodriguez is expected to provide.

"I'm sure it's pretty exciting for them, they're able to see Alex down there," Girardi said. "I'm sure they'll have quite a crowd tonight, and probably a little bit more media attention than they're used to.

"But it's probably good for those kids to see that so they understand what it's like when you get here. There's a lot of people that are around watching everything you do. I'm sure they're enjoying it."

Gardner was born in Holly Hill, S.C., and attended the College of Charleston, making the team as a walk-on. He played one game at Joseph P. Riley Ballpark last year, his only professional experience in Charleston.

"I live pretty close to there now, I grew up close to there and went to college down there," he said. "Basically, my whole life, I've been from that area. It's a beautiful ballpark; I'm sure it's one of the nicest in the [South Atlantic] League. It's a great place to play."

Surgery on Teixeira's wrist a success

MINNEAPOLIS -- First baseman Mark Teixeira had the tendon sheath in his right wrist repaired on Monday in a procedure performed by Dr. Keith Raskin at New York University Hospital. He is expected to be ready for Spring Training.

"Successful surgery yesterday, doc said it couldn't have gone better," Teixeira said on Twitter. "Looking forward to watching my #Yankee teammates tonight vs the Twins."

Teixeira, 33, played in just 15 games this season, batting .151 with three homers and 12 RBIs. He initially sustained the injury in March while hitting off a tee with Team USA while preparing for the World Baseball Classic.

The injury was aggravated during the Yankees' West Coast trip in June, and a cortisone injection did not provide relief. Team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad, hand specialist Dr. Melvin Rosenwasser and two other New York-based hand specialists concurred in recommending the season-ending surgery.

Approximately $7 million of Teixeira's $22.5 million salary was covered by insurance from the World Baseball Classic because he was injured as a participant.

Team president Randy Levine said that the responsibility for Teixeira's salary reverted to the Yankees when he made his season debut on May 31, but the Yankees also have insurance that will cover a majority of his 2013 salary.

Kuroda's MRI clean, but Nova to start Friday

MINNEAPOLIS -- Right-hander Hiroki Kuroda flew back to New York on Tuesday to have an MRI performed on his left hip flexor; tests came back clean.

According to manager Joe Girardi, Kuroda felt some soreness after his outing on Sunday, but the procedure showed no tears.

"That's the best news that we could have gotten," Girardi said. "He felt better today. He actually wanted to come back here."

Girardi said the team will re-evaluate Kuroda on Friday after returning to New York. Even with the clean results, though, Kuroda will no longer start on Friday; right-hander Ivan Nova will get the nod in his stead.

Nova has started five games this season and made three relief appearances, for a total of 35 innings. He has a 2-2 record and 4.63 ERA.

If Kuroda checks out on Friday and has a solid bullpen session, the team will try to get him back in the rotation. Kuroda is 7-6 on the season, with a 2.95 ERA and 75 strikeouts.

"If we can slot him in somewhere, we'll slot him in," Girardi said.

Nix day to day with sore right hamstring

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Yankees have been playing with a three-man bench, and the list of reserves will seem even shorter now that Jayson Nix's right hamstring is hurting.

Nix hurt the hamstring running out a ninth-inning double in the Yankees' 10-4 victory over the Twins on Monday. The Yankees consider Nix day to day, and manager Joe Girardi said that no tests are planned.

"It just kind of tightened up a little bit when I stretched out the double last night," Nix said. "I wasn't too concerned about it, just something that was there and was a little bit sore after the game. It's a little something that kind of started, so we're going to keep it under control."

Alberto Gonzalez replaced Nix in the lineup and at shortstop for Tuesday's game, though Nix believes he will be able to play on Wednesday. The bench will be composed of Nix, catcher Austin Romine and outfielder Vernon Wells.

For the time being, Girardi envisions using Gonzalez at shortstop and David Adams at third base. He said that there is no plan yet in regard to Ivan Nova, who is being carried on the roster as a 13th pitcher.

"It's not what you want," Girardi said. "It just tests your depth even more, but it's something we've had to deal with, and we'll deal with it."

Bombers bits

• Robinson Cano took right-handed swings in the batting cage beneath Target Field on Tuesday, making loud contact off hitting coach Kevin Long, but he laughed and said he has no plans of attempting to switch-hit. Cano often takes cuts from the right side to loosen up his right oblique.

• On this date in 1941, Joe DiMaggio hit a three-run homer to extend his hitting streak to 45 games, surpassing Wee Willie Keeler's single-season Major League record, set in 1897.

Twins present Rivera with specially crafted chair

MINNEAPOLIS -- It was named the "Chair of Broken Dreams."

Built out of broken bats once used by Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau and Kirby Puckett, among others, the rocking chair was presented by the Twins to Mariano Rivera to commemorate his pending retirement.

As they laughed over the gift, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire -- who came up with the idea back in April -- noted that most of the bats were broken at the hand of Rivera himself. The Twins also donated $10,000 to the Mariano Rivera Foundation, which is working on a building a church in New Rochelle, N.Y.

"He's kind of done it all the right way," Gardenhire said of Rivera. "When you talk about respect of the game, he'll be right up there at the top. He's a player you respect, and the way he's gone about it. A classy individual."

Rivera has made life hard on the Twins in the 54 games he's pitched against them. Over his 33 saves through July 1, he has allowed only 11 runs on 44 hits and struck out 67.

"I'll miss him as far as what he meant to the game and to the Yankees," general manager Terry Ryan said. "I'm not going to miss watching him carve us up.

"God bless that man. He's been a tremendous closer, but it's not going to break my heart to see him go off into the sunset."

When Rivera heard about Ryan's comments, he laughed and said he was simply doing his job.

"It's a job that I have to do," Rivera said. "I'm satisfied with my job, but I tell you the truth, though, there's been a lot of good games here and good battles."

Although Rivera's numbers against the Twins stand out, he never had one particular player who gave him issues except for the time Paul Molitor hit him on the leg, a pain he still feels, or so he joked.

Prior to Tuesday's game, and as he's done at every park he's visited this season for the final time -- Rivera held an invitation-only affair through which he and attendees were able to chat.

He met a woman who worked with Twins ticket-holders and learned how she became a baseball fan after years of not liking the game. Now she's worked within the sport for 20 years.

"It's wonderful to hear a thing like that," Rivera said. "I [was] more than grateful to meet her and to listen to her."

With retirement looming, Rivera said, his "farewell" tour has led to experiences he never imagined.

"It has been more than what I expected," he said. "It has brought emotions that I wouldn't have expected -- wonderful people, wonderful human beings dedicated to their work, their job and their organization. And that's what we all hear about. It has been beyond what I was expecting."

Kuroda's MRI clean, but Nova to start Friday

MINNEAPOLIS -- Right-hander Hiroki Kuroda flew back to New York on Tuesday to have an MRI performed on his left hip flexor; tests came back clean.

According to manager Joe Girardi, Kuroda felt some soreness after his outing on Sunday, but the procedure showed no tears.

"That's the best news that we could have gotten," Girardi said. "He felt better today. He actually wanted to come back here."

Girardi said the team will re-evaluate Kuroda on Friday after returning to New York. Even with the clean results, though, Kuroda will no longer start on Friday; right-hander Ivan Nova will get the nod in his stead.

Nova has started five games this season and made three relief appearances, for a total of 35 innings. He has a 2-2 record and 4.63 ERA.

If Kuroda checks out on Friday and has a solid bullpen session, the team will try to get him back in the rotation. Kuroda is 7-6 on the season, with a 2.95 ERA and 75 strikeouts.

"If we can slot him in somewhere, we'll slot him in," Girardi said.

Surgery on Teixeira's wrist a success

MINNEAPOLIS -- First baseman Mark Teixeira had the tendon sheath in his right wrist repaired on Monday in a procedure performed by Dr. Keith Raskin at New York University Hospital. He is expected to be ready for Spring Training.

"Successful surgery yesterday, doc said it couldn't have gone better," Teixeira said on Twitter. "Looking forward to watching my #Yankee teammates tonight vs the Twins."

Teixeira, 33, played in just 15 games this season, batting .151 with three homers and 12 RBIs. He initially sustained the injury in March while hitting off a tee with Team USA while preparing for the World Baseball Classic.

The injury was aggravated during the Yankees' West Coast trip in June, and a cortisone injection did not provide relief. Team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad, hand specialist Dr. Melvin Rosenwasser and two other New York-based hand specialists concurred in recommending the season-ending surgery.

Approximately $7 million of Teixeira's $22.5 million salary was covered by insurance from the World Baseball Classic because he was injured as a participant.

Team president Randy Levine said that the responsibility for Teixeira's salary reverted to the Yankees when he made his season debut on May 31, but the Yankees also have insurance that will cover a majority of his 2013 salary.

Nix day to day with sore right hamstring

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Yankees have been playing with a three-man bench, and the list of reserves will seem even shorter now that Jayson Nix's right hamstring is hurting.

Nix hurt the hamstring running out a ninth-inning double in the Yankees' 10-4 victory over the Twins on Monday. The Yankees consider Nix day to day, and manager Joe Girardi said that no tests are planned.

"It just kind of tightened up a little bit when I stretched out the double last night," Nix said. "I wasn't too concerned about it, just something that was there and was a little bit sore after the game. It's a little something that kind of started, so we're going to keep it under control."

Alberto Gonzalez replaced Nix in the lineup and at shortstop for Tuesday's game, though Nix believes he will be able to play on Wednesday. The bench will be composed of Nix, catcher Austin Romine and outfielder Vernon Wells.

For the time being, Girardi envisions using Gonzalez at shortstop and David Adams at third base. He said that there is no plan yet in regard to Ivan Nova, who is being carried on the roster as a 13th pitcher.

"It's not what you want," Girardi said. "It just tests your depth even more, but it's something we've had to deal with, and we'll deal with it."

Gardner: A-Rod in Charleston a big deal

MINNEAPOLIS -- Brett Gardner has deep ties to the Charleston, S.C., area, so he understands just how big of a deal it will be to have Alex Rodriguez wearing a Riverdogs uniform this week.

Rodriguez is slated to join Class-A Charleston on Tuesday, playing at least three innings at third base. He and shortstop Eduardo Nunez are also scheduled to play for the Riverdogs on Wednesday.

"I know it's supposed to be standing-room-only there tonight," Gardner said. "I was joking with Mark Littlefield, our trainer -- it's probably the second-biggest crowd they've ever had, except for when I was there last year [on Minor League rehab]. I think it'll mean a lot. I think they'll enjoy seeing him play, and I think he'll enjoy his time there as well."

Manager Joe Girardi plans to assign one of the team's starting pitchers to watch A-Rod's at-bats, which are being broadcast from Charleston, and joked that Charleston's players will probably enjoy the big league postgame spread Rodriguez is expected to provide.

"I'm sure it's pretty exciting for them, they're able to see Alex down there," Girardi said. "I'm sure they'll have quite a crowd tonight, and probably a little bit more media attention than they're used to.

"But it's probably good for those kids to see that so they understand what it's like when you get here. There's a lot of people that are around watching everything you do. I'm sure they're enjoying it."

Gardner was born in Holly Hill, S.C., and attended the College of Charleston, making the team as a walk-on. He played one game at Joseph P. Riley Ballpark last year, his only professional experience in Charleston.

"I live pretty close to there now, I grew up close to there and went to college down there," he said. "Basically, my whole life, I've been from that area. It's a beautiful ballpark; I'm sure it's one of the nicest in the [South Atlantic] League. It's a great place to play."

Bombers bits

• Robinson Cano took right-handed swings in the batting cage beneath Target Field on Tuesday, making loud contact off hitting coach Kevin Long, but he laughed and said he has no plans of attempting to switch-hit. Cano often takes cuts from the right side to loosen up his right oblique.

• On this date in 1941, Joe DiMaggio hit a three-run homer to extend his hitting streak to 45 games, surpassing Wee Willie Keeler's single-season Major League record, set in 1897.

A-Rod's return may have big impact on Cano

MINNEAPOLIS -- It has been an easy decision for opposing managers to circle Robinson Cano's name in the Yankees lineup and decide that, no matter what, they'd rather take their chances with someone else in a big situation.

That is part of the reason that Cano is looking forward to having Alex Rodriguez back in the Yankees' depleted batting order, potentially offering an increase in protection if and when he completes his Minor League rehabilitation assignment.

"We want him back," Cano said. "As a player, when you love this game, all you want is to be able to play the game, not be hurt and be away from the game for a long time. It's frustrating."

Cano entered play on Monday batting .287 with 17 home runs and 48 RBIs in 81 games, and he is leading fan balloting to start at second base for the American League in the All-Star Game.

But manager Joe Girardi acknowledges that Cano's numbers are not quite where they are expected to be.

"He may not have as many opportunities with some of the injuries that we've had," Girardi said. "He doesn't maybe have some of the protection that he's had in the past. I think he's having a pretty decent first half, what he's done so far."

A-Rod was a scapegoat in the Yankees' postseason elimination last season, coming as he went just 3-for-35 against Orioles and Tigers pitching, but Cano's struggles were even worse (3-for-40, .075).

He knows that he wasn't bringing his best in the playoffs, and Cano expects that A-Rod will be a much different player once he returns.

"I don't think it will affect him," Cano said. "We didn't know he was hurt. If he's healthy, he can do a lot of good things in this game. I know fans are going to be on his side. Hopefully he'll come back and start doing good right away."

Cano said that he has been texting with Rodriguez on a semi-regular basis, but with Rodriguez now primed to begin playing in Minor League games, Cano will keep closer tabs on Rodriguez's progress.

"I knew he was hurt and he was doing rehab," Cano said. "I'd ask him how he feels, how he's doing. Now it's different; now I can text him, see how he feels, how he's doing in the game. Hopefully we'll see him back soon."

Bombers bits

• Derek Jeter had more simulated at-bats on Monday at the Yankees' facility in Tampa, Fla., according to manager Joe Girardi. Francisco Cervelli also took batting practice and Curtis Granderson threw in the outfield.

• Even with the Yankees lacking both Mark Teixeira and Kevin Youkilis, Girardi said that there has been no discussion of having Rodriguez or Jeter take any reps at first base during their Minor League rehabilitation assignments.

• On this date in 1990, the Yankees made three errors behind Andy Hawkins in the eighth inning, keeping his no-hitter intact but leading to four unearned runs as the White Sox posted a 4-0 victory. Major League Baseball removed Hawkins' no-hitter designation in 1991, instituting a rule requiring at least nine innings to have been pitched in a no-hitter.

Pineda has rough outing for Double-A Trenton

BALTIMORE -- Michael Pineda hit his first bump in his Minor League rehabilitation assignment on Sunday, permitting four runs in three innings to the Double-A Binghamton Mets while pitching for the Trenton Thunder.

Working his way back to the big leagues from right labrum surgery, Pineda allowed homers to Cesar Puello and Richard Lucas, walking four and striking out four around four hits in a 67-pitch outing.

"I guess his velocity was fine," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "From the box score, it just looks like he didn't pitch as well."

Girardi said that the Yankees have not yet discussed having Pineda join the big league roster when his 30-day rehabilitation assignment is up in early July, and general manager Brian Cashman has said it is possible the Yankees would keep Pineda starting at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

"I saw that he threw 67 pitches today. He's thrown more," Girardi said. "I know he went three innings today, but if he can help us -- if Brian thinks he can help us -- I'm sure we'd bring him."

Nova taking uncertainty of role day by day

BALTIMORE -- Ivan Nova arrived at Camden Yards on Saturday with no inkling that the Yankees coaching staff was already kicking around the idea of having him rejoin the rotation this week against the Twins.

Nova could be sure that the Yankees also weren't planning on having him come out of the bullpen in the third inning, relieving David Phelps after a nine-run pounding in an 11-3 loss. So now Nova remains on the roster, uncertain what his next assignment will be.

"I'm trying to not think too much, get ready for any time that they say, 'You're up,'" Nova said. "I don't try to think too far from right now. I'm just taking it day by day."

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that the staff will stay on rotation through the Twins series, so Andy Pettitte, Phil Hughes, CC Sabathia and Phelps will all get starts at Target Field.

Girardi did say that he was pleased by Nova's relief outing, in which he held the Orioles to a two-run Chris Davis home run over 5 2/3 innings, scattering six hits while walking none and striking out four.

"I thought he pitched OK, and I'll just keep guys on rotation right now," Girardi said. "We'll see, maybe slot him in somewhere else."

The game was out of hand by the point Nova entered, but Girardi said a blowout can still be useful for evaluating a pitcher's stuff.

"I don't necessarily always look at the results," Girardi said. "You look at how you feel a guy throws and how he's competing and how he goes about his business. Games are different when they're 9-0, but you can look at it a lot of different ways.

"You can say, 'Well, the other team is awfully relaxed,' and as a hitter you want to be relaxed. I might say they're not quite grinding out their at-bats like if it were 3-0. You can look at it a number of different ways. You look at the quality of the stuff."

Nova has made a mantra out of saying that he must take advantage of whatever opportunities come his way. After making three starts for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, Nova said that he would prefer to stay in the big leagues even with an uncertain role.

"I just want to win," Nova said. "If I'm on the mound or any of my other teammates are on the mound, I want them to do a good job for the team," Nova said. "I'm not the type of guy that likes to be in last place.

"We're not really good right now and we're like [5 1/2] games from first place. I want everybody to do their job and pitch good. My time is going to come. I don't have nothing bad for [anybody]. I just want everybody to be good and healthy."

HOW TO ENTER: During the Promotion Period, you may enter the Promotion by clicking on the banners, buttons and/or links within MLB.com Gameday (a free application) and following the instructions provided to register for the Promotion. If you are not already a member of MLB.com, you must become one before you can register to participate in the Contest (membership is free). There is only one (1) way to participate in the Promotion: online. No other method of entry or participation will be accepted. Additional entries beyond the specified limit will be void. Entries generated by script, macro or other automated means will be void. HOW TO PARTICIPATE:  Upon successful registration, follow the instructions provided to receive one (1) virtual bingo card (the "Bingo Card") for each game of the 2012 MLB Postseason played during the Promotion Period (each, a "Postseason Game"). In addition, during the Promotion Period, participants may utilize sharing functionality available via the Promotion upon completion of a successful Contest (the "Sharing Functionality") to receive two (2) additional Bingo Cards. For each eligible individual any entrant notifies or makes aware of the Promotion who clicks on a valid link made available via the Sharing Functionality identifiable as having come from the entrant, such entrant shall receive two (2) additional Bingo Cards (for a total of three (3) Bingo Cards). No additional Bingo Cards will be received other than through verified Sharing Functionality. There is a limit of three (3) Bingo Cards per person and per e-mail address per Postseason Game. Each Bingo Card shall include a 5x5 grid that includes twenty-five (25) tiles (each, a "Tile"). Each Tile will include one (1) randomly selected game outcome for the active Postseason Game. For example, a participant could have a "Josh Hamilton Double" Tile on their Bingo Card which would be automatically marked in the event Josh Hamilton hits a double during a Postseason Game. Any eligible participant who receives a Bingo Card that becomes marked with five (5) Tiles in a vertical, horizontal or diagonal row (each, a "Potential Winning Bingo Card") may be a potential Prize winner, subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with the terms of these Official Rules. (See the Prize Claim Section below for more information.) For purposes of this Promotion, MLB game outcomes will not be updated to reflect any official MLB statistics changes or corrections that may occur after the completion of any Postseason Game. Once each Postseason Game is final following completion of the final out of that game, it will be final for purposes of this Promotion. In the event any Postseason Game is cancelled, postponed or suspended, all Bingo Cards will be void for that game and Sponsor reserves the right to award the applicable Prizes by way of random drawing from among all eligible participants as of the time of such cancellation, postponement or suspension.

PRIZE CLAIMS: In the event you receive a message within MLB.com Gameday notifying you that you have a Potential Winning Bingo Card, you must claim your Potential Winning Bingo Card by following the onscreen instructions provided by no later than ten (10) minutes following the end of the applicable Postseason Game to be eligible for the Drawing (defined below). Failure to claim your Potential Winning Bingo Card within ten (10) minutes following the end of the applicable Postseason Game will render the Potential Winning Bingo Card void and result in Prize forfeiture.

ALL POTENTIAL WINNING BINGO CARDS ARE SUBJECT TO VERIFICATION BY SPONSOR WHOSE DECISIONS ARE FINAL AND BINDING. AN ENTRANT IS NOT A WINNER OF ANY PRIZE, EVEN IF THE PROMOTION SHOULD SO INDICATE, UNLESS AND UNTIL ENTRANT'S ELIGIBILITY, THE POTENTIAL WINNING BINGO CARD AND ENTRANT'S COMPLIANCE WITH THESE OFFICIAL RULES HAVE BEEN VERIFIED BY SPONSOR AND ENTRANT HAS BEEN NOTIFIED THAT SUCH VERIFICATION IS COMPLETE.
